Description
Free 24-Hour Wuzhen Itinerary (PDF Guide)
Shanghai / Hangzhou / Suzhou → Wuzhen: Transport, Tickets & Local Eats — All in One Place
Tired of opening ten blogs just to figure out how to get from Shanghai to Wuzhen?
I’ve been there. That’s why I made this exact guide — the one I wish I had before my first trip.
It’s a free PDF. No email spam. No hidden fees. Just a practical plan to squeeze the best of Wuzhen into 24 hours, with every address, link, and timetable checked as of August 2025.
What’s inside
How to get there (without guessing)
From Shanghai Hongqiao → Tongxiang Station, then bus K281 to Xizha. From Hangzhou / Suzhou, there are faster train routes. The PDF includes exact schedules, fares, and last return times so you never miss the last train back.
Example: Shanghai Hongqiao → Tongxiang trains run 5:52–20:34, ¥42–56. Bus K281 runs every 20–30 min, ¥2.
Which ticket to buy
Dongzha only? Xizha only? Combined pass? I tell you exactly when each makes sense. Short on time? Just buy Xizha — I explain why inside. Booking links to official platforms are included, so you skip the ticket line.
Navigation that actually works
Every spot in the guide has a one‑click Amap link with the Chinese address pre‑loaded. You don’t need to type “Wuzhen” and end up in a random alley. It works offline too — perfect for canal-side no-signal spots.
Eat like a local (no detours)
I picked 5+ restaurants within walking distance of the main attractions. Think braised lamb noodles (书生羊肉面), soy sauce zongzi, and radish shredded pancakes. Each has both English and Chinese names to show taxi drivers.
The crowd hack
Want quiet photos of Xizha’s lantern-lit canals? Go at twilight, not after 7pm when tour groups pour in. Prefer Dongzha’s workshops? Hit them right after 7:00 opening before the buses arrive.
Why trust this guide?
I spent a month walking the canals of Wuzhen, re-checking bus schedules, and eating at too many noodle shops. The guide is produced by DolphinUnion.com, and it’s updated regularly. A few things you can do with this PDF that most blogs don’t offer:
- Clickable Amap icons that open navigation instantly
- Internal jump links for each section (no endless scrolling)
- Offline viewing with ReadEra or Adobe Acrobat
- Chinese phrases for taxi drivers and restaurants

Mostly great but one noodle shop the guide recommended had closed. We found another one nearby. Otherwise the whole day went perfectly.

We took the high-speed train from Hongqiao to Tongxiang, followed the guide’s bus instructions, and arrived in Xizha before 9am. Smooth as butter.

The guide’s spot for writer’s braised lamb noodles was unreal. We went twice. The tofu pudding across the street was also great.

The guide recommended a specific workshop and we got to make our own blue-dye scarf. So much better than just watching. Highly recommend.

Bought the Shanghai + Hangzhou bundle and this Wuzhen guide was included as a free add-on. Ended up using it more than some of the paid guides.

The guide said to hit the blue dye workshops right at 7:00 when they open. We did and had the place to ourselves. By 10am it was packed.

The guide told us to go to Xizha after 7pm when the lanterns come on. Magic. Avoid the tour groups. This tip alone was gold.

I didn’t need to type a single Chinese character. Every spot on the guide opened directly in Amap. Made getting around Wuzhen stress-free.

I got this as a freebie when I bought the Shanghai guide. Wasn’t expecting much from a $0 PDF, but it actually saved our trip to Wuzhen. The bus schedule from Tongxiang station alone was worth it.
